The 6th Grade Memory Book Collection

The photos in this album were taken during my sixth grade year at Alvah A. Scott Elementary School in Aiea, Hawaii. The majority of them were taken by my teacher, Mrs. Peltier-Low. As part of a 6th grade project, we all constructed a "memory book," filled with our 6th grade experiences in writings and photographs; hence, the name of this album, "The Memory Book Collection." Please note that there are other albums from 1998-1999 located on this website. You can find links to them at the bottom of this page or on the Kewlies! pictures index.

These photos are sort of old in Kewlies terms, so it's hard for me to figure out who everyone is. If you see a caption that is wrong or that you can add to (especially those with blanks where names should be), please contact me and tell me who's who or point out my errors. Thank you.

Please note: NONE OF THESE PHOTOGRAPHS WERE TAKEN BY ME; AS OF NOW THEY ARE THE PROPERTY OF MRS. PELTIER-LOW WHO ALSO OWNS RELATED COPYRIGHTS TO THE FOLLOWING PHOTOGRAPHS.

1998

A photo of me
[640x480] [800x600] [1024x768]
This is my portrait of the year 1998. Um...aside from being a portrait I don't know much else about the picture, not even the date (besides the fact I know it was taken between August and October 1998). Um...I'm wearing a pendant my best friend Jill gave me. It has the definition of the word "friend" on it; Jill kept the other pendant that said, "Best" on it. Pretty kewl. 61
Me and Tony
[640x480] [800x600] [1024x768]
On October 29th, 1998, we took a field trip to the Hawaii State Judiciary at Ali'iolani Hale in downtown Honolulu. The judiciary building contained a small museum, and this picture shows my friend Tony Kim (who mysteriously fell off the face of the earth) and I kneeling in front of one of the exhibits. It was a curious day. I accidently set off the metal detector at the entrance twice because I had metal in my pocket. It was actually kind of funny because the security guards didn't care and just kinda pushed me inside the building and they seemed to be thinking, "oh, he's just a sixth grader. he can't plant a bomb." I think the exhibit we were sitting in front of said something important but I cut it off when I put the picture into the memory book so I don't remember. 3
Reno and me
[640x480] [800x600] [1024x768]
This picture was also taken at the State Judiciary on October 29th 1998. It shows Reno and I in a restored 1911 courtroom within the judiciary building. We had just come back from a concert at the Honolulu symphony. In this part of the field trip, we played out roles from a real life story that occured in Hawai`i when it was a kingdom (Oni vs. Meek). Reno was Mr. Oni and I was his attourney because attourneys get paid lots of money! :) 4
Honolulu Police Department and Ali'iolani Hale field trip
[640x480] [800x600] [1024x768]
A splash page in B&W by Mrs. Peltier-Low. This is of the Honolulu Police Department stuff, at the Oni Vs. Mink trial (see above). This was taken in front of the famous King Kamehameha statue outside of historic Ali'iolani Hale (the palace-looking building in the background). 320
Room 38's Principal's List Award recipients of 1st quarter
[640x480] [800x600] [1024x768]
Room 38's Principal's List Award recipients of 1st quarter, November 23, 1998. All recipients are awarded a pencil and a certificate (yeah, yeah...). People in this photograph are, from left to right: (top) Nanette, Cristy, Courtney aka Leilani, Amanda, Christina. (bottom) me (Jordon), Jerrill, Zane, and Reno. We're actually standing right next to the tree in front of room 40, the farthest room from the office at our school. 62
The Christmas craftfare, 1998 - Alana
[640x480] [800x600] [1024x768]
Alvah Scott held its annual Christmas craftfare on December 11, 1998. This photo shows Alana selling the craft that our class made. I don't remember what we made aside from friendship bracelets. I see bags in the pic but I don't know if they are ours. I think we had some magnetic stuff though. Hm. 309
The Christmas craftfare, 1998 - Dyna and Jill
[640x480] [800x600] [1024x768]
These two young ladies are Dayna and Jill of Mrs. Urasaki's class. In the larger views of the photo, you can see the cool stuff their class was selling. Yeah. There's an interesting story behind this, but I won't get into it here. 310
The country project
[640x480] [800x600] [1024x768]
This image was taken on December 16, 1998 in our classroom. We had done these stupid country projects and we presented them on this day. Note 4th grade teacher Mrs. Agor in the foreground (in red). I'm assuming the kids in the pic that aren't behind an exhibit are 4th graders. The two display boards in a distance are those of me and Brandon. Another teacher visible (with her back turned) is Mrs. Kumagai, another 4th grade teacher. Also note Zane Moriki's head... 1
The exhibits of Brandon and I
[640x480] [800x600] [1024x768]
This is a close-up view of my exhibit and Brandon's exhibit. Note the slightly stupid t-shirts. Inside the box in front of the shirt on my exhibit is a model of a Spanish galleon. Oh yeah before I forget, I did Spain and Brandon did Vietnam. 5
Amanada and her France exhibit
[640x480] [800x600] [1024x768]
This picture was taken on the 16th of December, like the previous two pics. This one was taken on the opposite side of Room 38, showing Amanda, quite possibly the most talented person in the entire class (just look at her model Eiffel Tower...made of chicken wire I believe). She seemed to really love horses; she used one of her horse figures in this exhibit of France. And...uh...aside from that, she actually looks French. Behind her Christina Chang is walking by. She, like Tony, also fell of the face of the Earth Ok she didn't fall off the face of the earth, check out her xanga. 6
Our craftfare company
[640x480] [800x600] [1024x768]
This image was taken on December 17, a few days after our bazaar. People in this picture are (from left to right): Zachary, Justin, Thomas, Jordon, and Brandon. Notice my astounding shortness compared to everyone else. Anyway, the five of us were a "company" that made merchandise for the bazaar; I think we stole "Hawaiian Island Creations" for our company name. On the poster you can see some of the items we sold at the Christmas bazaar. 2

1999

Brandon and I at the Ku'aloa Aquafarms
[640x480] [800x600] [1024x768]
Brandon and I at the Ku'aloa Aquafarms, January 14, 1999. See how short I am? Anyway, notice our nets , which we used to catch shrimp. To the left and right of the pictures are ponds in which the farm was raising shrimp for commercial use. We all caught shrimp that day, but Amanda (far left, 3rd person in the line) got lucky and caught herself a fish in the nets. Haha, somehow it had to be her. =) 66
Fishing at the aquafarm
[640x480] [800x600] [1024x768]
Another picture from our field trip to the Aquafarms. This trip was a combination of two of the four 6th grade classes (I think we went with room 39, Mrs. Urasaki's class cause we did everything else with them anyway, but I'm not sure actually). I'm not sure who that man was (I forgot). I think that's Ku'u behind him. Behind them are Amber, left, and Christina, right. The beautiful, lush, pali of the Ko'olau Mountains are in the background. 67
Oriented at the aquafarm
[640x480] [800x600] [1024x768]
A slightly blurry photograph from the aquafarms. Um...you can see...uh...my back and my favorite Tigger thingy. There are many people I can recognize in this photograph but it's so crowded here it's hard to organize. So here are the people, from the front to the back: me, Shereise, Amber, Ku'upuni, Zachary (?), Thomas (?), Tony, and Francis. There are dead crayfish in the bottles on the table, don't mind them. The speakers had just finished giving us a speech about the farm and we were now putting our bags away in a cabinet for safe storage. 68
Brandon and I again
[640x480] [800x600] [1024x768]
Another pic from the Aquafarms. Brandon is in the front, blocking my face with his hand. Behind me are Jerrill (black shirt), Zane (plain pale blue shirt), Tony (patterned shirt), and Amanda (wearing Alvah Scott School t-shirt). Behind Brandon are Amber (white shirt), an unidentified man, and Ku'u. 69
Students at the aquafarm
[640x480] [800x600] [1024x768]
This is a picture of scary 6th graders at the Aquafarms. I'm in the lower left (old school t-shirt), Shereise is behind me (new t-shirt), Brandon (white shirt), Jillian (girl who is about to be decapitated by woman), Courtney (background, partially blocked by Francis), and Francis (striped shirt in foreground). 308
Tony at the aquafarm
[640x480] [800x600] [1024x768]
Tony posing at the Aquafarm with a net showing a pond in the background where we caught shrimp and stuff. 314
Ku'aloa Aquafarm splash
[640x480] [800x600] [1024x768]
A splash for the Kualoa Aqua Farm field trip. 322
Crossdressers Annonymous
[640x480] [800x600] [1024x768]
I'm not even going to bother to try to explain this. 321
Principal's List, second quarter
[640x480] [800x600] [1024x768]
These people made the Principal's List in the second quarter of our 6th grade year, I think. 1st row: Christina, Amanda, Cristy, and me. 2nd Row: Brandon, Jerrill, Dane, and Courtney. 3rd row: Nannette, Amber, Zane, and Reno. 318
Perfect attendance award
[640x480] [800x600] [1024x768]
Room 38's 1st semester (not quarter) Perfect Attendance Award, February 8, 1999. From left to right: Brandon, Christina, me (Jordon) and Cristy. Darn I have no fashion sense. Ahem. Yeah I was one weird person in 6th grade. Hm...I knew I should have worn jeans on this day...oh well. Note the lopsided parallel bars. Hahaha. 63
Mr. Toyooka
[640x480] [800x600] [1024x768]
This was our P.E. teacher, Mr. Toyooka (sp?)...well everyone called him Mr. T. He was a pretty darn cool and was a good P.E. teacher. He later became principal of our school (while we were in intermediate) but then he left for some other school. Ahhh well. 316
Me and a Junior Achievement poster
[640x480] [800x600] [1024x768]
This is me in front of a JA (Junior Achivement) poster. For a further explanation of JA, see the next picture. 64
Justin in front of a JA poster
[640x480] [800x600] [1024x768]
This is my friend Justin in front of a JA (Junior Achivement) poster. JA is an economics program done for 6th graders in our school (and others around the state). JA was interesting, although they didn't go deep into economics as one would think. Actually I don't remember a thing that they taught us in JA, except that one of Zane Moriki's parents came to talk to us, I think. 65
Presentation of a lei by Ms. V. to Mr. Lai
[640x480] [800x600] [1024x768]
Mr. Lai, our VP, being presented a lei by 6th grade teacher Ms. V., at the library, just before rewards for the Invention Convention were given out. 317
Invention Convention winners
[640x480] [800x600] [1024x768]
The winners in the Invention Convention, posing in the library. The judges are in the background. Most notable is our former superintendent of education, Dr. uhhh I forget his name. He's third to the right in the second row. The students are, from left to right: Ray, Taryn, Alile, me, and Christina. 315
Christina's invention for the invention convention
[640x480] [800x600] [1024x768]
Christina's invention for the invention convention: a newspaper machine that prevents more than one newspaper from being taken at once. Hm...Ryan's not gonna like that one. Christina's award won 2nd place I think. 319
Invention Convention banner and me
[640x480] [800x600] [1024x768]
Ok, just what was this "Invention Convention?" It was this dumb project where we had to invent something and then important people would come to our school and judge it. Yeah. I invented some kind of weird machine that took chalk dust and just collected it in a way suitable for disposal as fertilizer (not very impressive). I won 1st place for environmental which wasn't very much of a feat considering it was a small category. 313
Christina at the Police Department
[640x480] [800x600] [1024x768]
One of our many field trips (on March 19, 1999) was to the Honolulu Police Department. I don't recall much from the field trip except that we saw some weird police clothes stuff and the different police cars. After the tour, we posed for pictures in the police car stuff. Here's a picture of Christina in the the police car thingy. 311
Me at the police department
[640x480] [800x600] [1024x768]
See above. 312

An enlarged version of the black and white splash above. These are the guys of room 37 (?) and 38 in front of Ali'iolani Hale. Class Unity Day
[640x480] [800x600] [1024x768]
More crossdressers. In truth the lighting in this photo is so bad that I can't figure out who anyone is besides Amber at the right. I think that's Amanda at lower center and Taryn between her and Amber but I'm not sure. 748
