‘Aiea Intermediate School Student Talent Competition 2001

All of these images were taken in `Aiea Intermediate School's 2001 Student Talent Competition (which was a lot bigger in the year 2001 than it had been in (the) previous year(s). Yes, I did participate and you'll find 3 (?) images of me and Julia singing "Dan Dan Kokoro Hikareteku". Of course, neither of us could really sing (okay well we sucked), but it didn't matter either way because I don't think there was a single person in the room that day who didn't expect Shawna Masuda to win. Other notable performances that day were on a couple of rappers (hehe) doing Limp Bizkit stuff, as well as Konae Purcell and Faye Toyama, and, of course, Brittney Ching doing her thing. Oh, and I apologize for the poor quality of the photos because I was using a cheap, generic Kodak disposable camera. Some of the photos on this page were taken by Mr. Brandon Abe, and one was taken by Mrs. Moriwake.

Limp Bizkit guys

Two 7th graders are performing "Rolling" by Limp Bizkit. It was pretty good, and they placed 5th overall. I think one of them is Michael but I can't remember that far back, haha. 95

Same as above, except with prominent dancing. 96
An awesome dancer

This girl was an awesome dancer. If I remember correctly, she coreographed her performance herself. That's talent!! 102
Brittney singing Britney
[640x480] [800x600] [1024x768]
Brittney performed in this talent show as well. She sang, "From the Bottom of my Broken Heart," by Britney Spears. She sang it very well so I'm not sure why she didn't place. 101
Two awesome singers

Next up, of course, were the auntie and niece duo of Faye Toyama and Konae Purcell. I can't remember what they sang but they were pretty good and aroused a huge cheer from the front rows of the audience during their performance. I have a recording of their performance, so maybe I'll put it online someday. 100
You can ignore this
[640x480] [800x600] [1024x768]
This is Julia and me...singing in Japanese. "Dan Dan Kokoro Hikareteku," the version sung by Field of View. Yeah. Nothing to see here. Although we won 4th place (and some cash), probably out of pity. 98
Ignore this

See above. 99
Blah
[640x480] [800x600] [1024x768]
Same as above. Julia is rejecting me in a quick skit for the instrumental. 97
Two good dancers
[640x480] [800x600] [1024x768]
Two 7th graders are dancing to a song...I can't remember exactly what they were dancing to, but I think it was Aaliyah or Janet Jackson or something. Anyway, they were pretty good even though they didn't place. 93
A singer
[640x480] [800x600] [1024x768]
I'm not too sure who this girl is but I'm pretty sure she was a singer and probably a good one at that. 94
Ex post facto

Ummm idk?
[640x480] [800x600] [1024x768]
These two girls were obviously one of the two performers from that day, but I really can't remember who they are or what they performed. Sorry bout that. Haha. 91
Shawna Masuda
[640x480] [800x600] [1024x768]
Of course, they saved the best for last. Whether it was on purpose or not, I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure that the order was done in such a way to make sure that Shawna sung last...so none of us would have to follow her up. Or maybe it was to send off the audience in a way to make them feel that Aiea actually had some talent. Yeah, this is Shawna Masuda we're talking about here. She's "Aiea's own," and is one of the few reasons why I sometimes feel good about being from Aiea. A rising star in her own right, she sang away in her own, distinctive, powerful voice and won the talent competition. 90
