Summer Fun 1999. (If you don't know what summer fun is, it's a program run by the City & County of Honolulu to give elementary aged kids something to do with their summers instead of wasting away at home.) This was my fourth (or was it fifth?) and last summer with the summer fun program and I was pretty content with it, overall. It was a pretty fun summer, I guess. Just prior to this, I had finished my education with Alvah A. Scott Elementary School, and I pretty much considered this my last "elementary school" type program of my life. So it was bittersweet, I suppose. Either way, I had a lot of fun, sorta, with Ice Palace, fun afternoons of blackmail, and some photography sessions. Note that once again, some of the photos on this page were taken by my friend Patrick Hong.
These photos are sort of old in Kewlies terms, so it's hard for me to figure out who everyone is. If you see a caption that is wrong or that you can add to (especially names), please contact me and tell me who's who or point out my errors. Thank you.

Once again, we can start with a day at Ice Palace. It was early in the morning and we were waiting for the gates to open outside the district park where the summer fun program was being hosted (you can see the metal gate on the right side of this photograph). All of a sudden, a friend of mine came by and asked to borrow my camera (I forget who it was). So, I lent him/her my camera and that person decided to take a picture of the back of Julia Nakamoto's head (this was, by the way, two years before I'd officially "meet" her so I really had no clue who this person was till later). In either case, I had no clue why this person did what (s)he did. So, moving on. | 263 |

My other friend named "Julia," that is, Julia Tokuhama, decided to pose for a photo of her own on this sunny morning. | 269 |

If you've visited seen my summer fun 1998 photos, you've probably seen those pictures that Patrick took of our junior leaders on the bus. Well, that was the summer before these pictures were taken. Once again, I ended up sitting next to Patrick on the bus to Ice Palace, and, remembering that I still had the photos from the previous summer, I once again offered Patrick my camera to continue our little tradition. This was the result. Photo by Patrick Hong. | 283 |

Same as above, except this time, she the poor junior leader knew what was going on. | 276 |

Anyway we finally got to the Ice Palace, and I before heading onto the ice myself, I took a photo of the already-crowded skating rink. So many little kids! Not a lot of room to breathe, but then again, this is probably about twice the normal traffic that Ice Palace sees on a given day. | 260 |

Another view looking out onto the ice. This time the ice is empty because they were about to "resurface" the ice (I don't know the proper term). | 264 |

Another view onto the ice with a very strong reflection from the camera flash off the glass that surrounds the rink. Crowded ice. | 281 |

At the Ewa end of Ice Palace, there used to be a display of lights depicting two birds looking out onto a bay at sunset with coconut trees on the beach and mountains in the background. I don't think it's still there, which is a shame cause I thought it was pretty cool. Oh well. | 279 |

People at the tables at Ice Palace, just sitting around and chillaxing. You can see Amber (right), and Cristy to her left. I think that's Katherine to the left and the little girl behind Katherine was I think Amanda. and Katherine and a girl who I think is Amanda. Help identifying these people positively would be appreciated. | 278 |

Zachary and a junior leader whose name I don't know. Um, is that Michael in the background? | 259 |

Chante (left) and Ahe (right) are on the ice at Ice Palace. I got in trouble with the security guy in the background for taking this picture, since cameras are apparently not allowed on the ice. Oh well. Nice picture, too much backlight. And, I learned it takes a lot of coordination to take a picture while ice skating. | 280 |

An ukulele player and a guitar player that entertained us while we were bored (i.e. waiting for our leaders to come outside after leaving Ice Palace). They were pretty good, I recall that I wanted to "tip" them (with $1) for their good show. (The two guys in this picture were surprised at my offer.) | 261 |

Matthew (whose last name eludes me at the moment) is striking a pose in front of the Aiea District Park's baseball field. Back in summer 1999, he was one of the few people I knew who liked having his picture taken. | 265 |

Julia, Jessica, and I at a summer fun "dance" (if you want to call it that). Those things were actually pretty boring. | 266 |

Uhhh some dude. I know who this guy is, but I just can't remember his name. | 267 |

Shortly after being dismissed for the day at summer fun, I snapped this photo of my friends from behind. In this shot are Katherine (holding book), Patrick (with blue bag), Thomas (cooler), Amber (whose face is visible between Thomas's head and arm), Cristy (walking away in background), and someone else whose face I can't see because he/she's being blocked by Patrick. | 270 |

One of dances we had at the summer fun. Cristy and Patrick are dancing in the right side of this shot. Thomas is also in this shot (he's the tall guy on the left side), and so is one of the Crowton twins (Jillian or Samantha), though offhand I can't tell them apart now (though I used to be able to do so easily). | 273 |

Zachary's head to the right...our favorite junior leader whose name I can't remember sitting against the wall. I don't know whose head that is to the left of the picture. | 274 |
